What needs to be assessed

A hydrogen project needs a clear purpose and a practical production and delivery plan. Important questions include the source of electricity, water requirements, production technology, storage, transport, safety and the needs of intended users.

  • Electricity Where the power for production comes from.
  • Water How much is needed, and from which source.
  • Production technology Which process suits the purpose and site.
  • Storage How hydrogen is held between production and use.
  • Transport How it reaches the people who will use it.
  • Safety How risks are managed at every stage.
  • Intended users Who needs it, and for what.

What “clean” needs to mean

Hydrogen's environmental impact depends on how it is produced and supplied. Any future claim about emissions or environmental benefits will need to describe its assumptions, boundaries and supporting evidence.

Our current position

We are not publishing production volumes, operating dates or emissions savings for a confirmed facility at this stage. Project-specific information will be shared when it is supported by completed work and appropriate review.
