What we do
How an energy proposal develops
Bringing an energy project into operation involves a series of technical and practical decisions. The process depends on the technology and location, but these are the main questions a proposal needs to address.
-
1. Understand the opportunity
Assess the energy resource, the intended use of the output and the basic suitability of a location.
-
2. Study the effects and requirements
Examine engineering options, environmental and social considerations, land arrangements, water needs where relevant, and the route to a grid connection or other user.
-
3. Seek the necessary decisions
Complete the applications, agreements and approvals required for the proposal. The requirements and responsible authorities depend on the jurisdiction and project.
-
4. Build and test
If the project proceeds, construction is followed by testing and commissioning before normal operation.
-
5. Operate and maintain
An operating project requires maintenance, monitoring and attention to its commitments throughout its working life.
